Soon, A Bike Advocate On The City Council
Tony Petros, what a time for you.
Just as you’re about to take office a need for leadership arises where you are uniquely qualified.
The 3-year effort on the Bike Safety Cmte has been an investment; you know the problem issues and you have the credibility of your profession to make your recommendations a reality. Plus you ride a bike.
All of a sudden tragedy strikes and galvanizes the community. People clamor for action. You’ve got the attention of the Press, Public Works and your peers on the Council. You can make the biggest impact on Newport Beach of any one I’ve known.
Beyond safety, you’ve seen the economic impact that Complete Streets can have on a community. Newport Beach could thrive as tourism surges, if we take a new look at transportation options for all users of the roadways. Newport Beach will become even more of an international destination when we embrace the changes that redefining our streets requires.
As a result residents will lead healthier, more prosperous lives.
All the pieces are in place. All that’s needed is the leadership.
You can leverage all these converging circumstances. Few others on the Council understand what to do, but you know quite clearly. Set the agenda and change the priorities. You have an opportunity of a lifetime to make your mark and deliver a brighter future for your constituents.
