Week Wrap Up

What a week it’s been for local cycling advocates!

First, the LA
City Council unanimously adopts the LA Bicycle Plan; see “Pedal-power to
the people” in the LA Times. Then San Diego County sets aside $2.5B, yes billion, out of their 30 year plan for bicycle infrastructure; details here.
And lastly, CalTrans and the Port of Long Beach agree with bike advocates Mark
Bixby and Allan Crawford: the new $1B Desmond Bridge will have bike
lanes and pedestrian access; see my scoop here.

That’s a lot of progress squeezed into one week, but there’s still lots
to do. Interested in getting involved? Come to the next Newport Beach
Bike Safety Committee meeting 4:30pm Monday March 7th in the Friends
Room at the Central Library on Avocado. You can make a difference in
your community; help build a new vision of urban life where people matter more than motor vehicles.
